Comic-style image featuring Ken’s Cool Cards mascot, bold text reading “What I’m Buying Right Now,” and illustrated baseball cards of Gunnar Henderson, Julio Rodríguez, and Bobby Witt Jr., themed for Spring Training and WBC.

Baseball is finally back, Spring Training is heating up, the World Baseball Classic is around the corner, and I’m officially in buy mode. This is the window I wait for every year—prices are still soft, hype hasn’t peaked, and you can grab real upside before the rest of the hobby wakes up. And yes… GO RED SOX.

My focus right now is simple: breakout prospects and young vets who are still undervalued. These are the players who can spike fast in the next 3–6 months, and I want to be holding before the box scores start doing the talking. If you’re new to this style of buying, check out my Collecting 101 and Grading Guide for the basics.

🔥 Gunnar Henderson — 2020 Bowman Platinum Autograph #TOP‑70

Price I paid: $61

Gunnar is already a star, but the hobby still prices him like he’s “emerging.” That gap won’t last. Autos from 2020 Bowman Platinum are still affordable, and this one has the right mix of scarcity, brand recognition, and long-term upside. If he starts hot—and he usually does—this is an easy flip or a safe hold. This is the exact type of card that moves fast once the season starts.

🔥 Julio Rodríguez — 2022 Topps Chrome Sonic Youthquake PSA 9

Price I paid: $24.99

This is one of the most slept‑on J‑Rod rookies. The Sonic inserts look great in a slab, the PSA 9 price is criminally low, and Julio is the type of player who can erase a price chart with one monster week. I’m buying these as liquid flips—easy to move, easy to profit, and perfect for anyone who sells on eBay or at shows. If you’re flipping, make sure your listings follow the basics in my eBay Selling 101 guide.

🔥 Bobby Witt Jr. — 2025 Topps Tier One Silver Foil /99

Price I paid: $15.99

Tier One numbered parallels under $20 for a superstar? That’s a buy every time. Witt is entering the “MVP candidate” phase of his career, and low‑numbered parallels like this are going to age extremely well. This is a 3–6 month flip with long-term hold potential if he keeps trending upward.

🔥 Roman Anthony — 2026 Topps 1991 RC (Red Sox)

Price I paid: $7.00

Way overpaid for this base insert.  It was pure emotion and stupid. I’m a Red Sox guy, I love Roman Anthony’s trajectory, and I’m not ashamed of a stupid buy when it’s under ten bucks.

🔥 Colby Thomas — 2026 Topps Baseball Stars Auto

Price I paid: $12.50

Cheap autos of athletic outfielders with real upside are one of the best plays in the hobby. Colby Thomas has the tools to surprise people this year, and at under $15, the risk is basically zero. These are the exact types of cards that double during Spring Training if the player shows anything at all.

📈 Why I’m Buying This Mix

  • Spring Training volatility creates fast profit windows.
  • WBC hype boosts international players and young stars.
  • Prospects + young vets give you both spike potential and stability.
  • Low buy‑ins let you scale without sweating every purchase.
  • These cards photograph well and list well, which matters for flipping.

This is the time of year when the hobby wakes up. I’m buying aggressively, staying disciplined on price, and leaning into players I actually believe in—because that’s how you build trust and authority in this space.
